EN VS DANS 🤔 WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE? HOW TO USE THEM?
If you’re learning french, you probably already came across these prepositions and you wonder “What’s the difference?” or “How to use them properly?”.
🟣 Let me explain very simply and quickly in this article!
If you translate in English, it becomes confusing because they both mean the same thing:
En = in / Dans = in
⚠️ But there’s actually a difference in the meaning… ⤵️
En = is used to refer to the necessary time to do an action.
Dans = is used to express something upcoming, in the future.
🟢 Let’s see some examples:
1️⃣ Dans cinq minutes = In five minutes
2️⃣ En cinq minutes = In five minutes
3️⃣ J’ai fait ce dessin en cinq minutes = I did this drawing in five minutes
4️⃣ Je vais faire ce dessin dans cinq minutes = I’m going to do this drawing in five minutes
5️⃣ Si tu viens dans une heure, on aura le temps de faire du shopping = If you come in an hour, we’ll have time to do some shopping
6️⃣ Dans les années à venir, mon frère va faire plusieurs voyages = In the upcoming years, my brother is going to go on several trips.
7️⃣ Maman a fait ce gâteau au chocolat en quarante minutes ! = Mom made this chocolate cake in forty minutes!
8️⃣ Je dois partir dans quelques minutes et je ne trouve pas mes clés ! = I have to leave in a few minutes and I can’t find my keys!
9️⃣ Si le docteur n’arrive pas dans les cinq prochaines minutes, je m’en vais ! = If the doctor doesn’t show up in the five next minutes, I’m leaving!
Et voilà ! 👏 Now you're all set to know how it works and to use them without making any mistake again!😊
